How to Make Text Larger in iPhone 4 Apps: Contacts, Mail, Messages and Notes

The iPhone 4 Retina display is remarkably crisp and sharp. Still, if you read lots of email or send a lot of text messages on your iPhone, the small text can be quite taxing on your eyes.

iOS 4 let's you increase the size of text displayed in iPhone's Mail, Messages, Contacts and Notes apps.

Open Settings and then tap General. Tap Accessibility. You'll see a number of settings. Tap Large Text and choose a text size that's easier for you to read.

Now, when you read or compose email, send a text message, look up contacts or take notes in the iOS 4 apps the larger text size will be used.

How to Make Your Mac Announce the Time

When you need to track the time, you Mac can help. Mac OS X gives you the option of having your Mac announce the time every 15 minutes, 30 minutes or hour.

Select "System Preferences..." from and then click "Date & Time" (in the forth row). Next, click the Clock tab to see a number of options. Click to check the "Announce the time" check box. In the pop-up menu, you can choose to have the time announced  On the quarter hour, On the half hour or On the hour.

If you like, click the "Customize Voice..." button to the computer voice that announces the time. There are lots of computer-generated voices to choose from: male voices, female voices and unusual voices, too.

Top 10 Useful iPad Tips

iPad was designed to be easy to use. It inherits many of the great features and qualities of an iPhone and iPod touch, yet is quite unique unto itself. Here are 10 useful tips to help you enjoy using your iPad even more.

Access iPod controls instantly.
When a song is playing, you can access iPod controls instantly - even when you're in another app. Double-click the Home button and a little window will open with controls to pause and play the song, and go to the previous or next song.

Arrange icons.
Tap and hold your finger down on any icon. The icon will start to wiggle. Drag it to another spot on the Home screen. Or, drag it to another Home screen. Or, drag it into the Dock.

Read PDF and ePub files in iBooks.
iBooks supports PDF and ePub formatted files. On your Mac, drag PDF or ePub books and documents into iTunes. Sync and then open iBooks to see them. Learn more about how to add PDF and ePub books to iBooks.

Type Periods, Fast.
When entering text, instead of typing a period at the end of a sentence and then a space, tap the Space Bar twice quickly. A period and a space is typed automatically.

Use Automatic Apostrophes.
For many common contractions, you don't have to type an apostrophe. For example, type "lets" and iPad will automatically suggest and use "let's". Other common contractions include: "you're", "we've", "don't" and "they'll".

Turn-On Caps Lock.
Open the Settings app and then tap General. Next, tap Keyboard to open it's settings. Tap the switch to Enable Caps Lock. Now, when you double-tap the Shift key, you'll be in Caps Lock mode. Tap the Shift key again to exit Caps Lock mode.

Cut, Copy & Paste.
Double-tap a word to select it. Drag the selection handles to include more words in the selection. Tap Cut or Copy. To use the cut or copied text, hold your finger down at a location where you wish to insert the text and then tap Paste. You could also create another selection and tap Paste to replace the selected text with the cut or copied text.

Find Hidden Punctuation Keys.
Some punctuation keys are hidden "behind" other keys. For example, on the Number keyboard, hold down on the apostrophe key. You'll see the curly versions of single quotes. For curly double quotes, hold down the double quotes key. You can choose from three curly quotes and straight quotes. Learn about other Hidden Punctuation Keys.

Save an image from the Web.
When viewing a web page in Safari, tap and hold your finger on an image on the web page. Buttons will display letting you save the image to your Camera Roll in the Photos app.

Power-off and Restart Your iPad.
Powering-off and restarting you iPad can sometimes remedy iPad glitches, for example, when an app hangs or your can't connect to a Wi-Fi network. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button (the button at the top right edge of the iPad) until the red slider appears. Drag the slider to the right and the iPad will power-off. Press the Sleep/Wake button to power-on the iPad.

How to Customize the Mac OS X Dock

The Dock in Mac OS X gives you convenient and quick access to applications, file and folders. By default, the Dock is placed at the bottom of the screen and has icons of many of the applications that come with your Mac. Just click an icon to open an application (or file or folder). There are a number of ways to customize and change the Mac OS X Dock.

Add To The Dock
You can add to the Dock by dragging an application (from the Applications folder) to the Dock. You can add files and folders by dragging them into the Dock, too. Drag applications to the left side of the dock, files and folders to the right side. Remove an icon from the dock by dragging it off the Dock.

Move The Dock
If you like, you can place the Dock at the left or right side of the screen. Select "Position on Left" or "Position on Right" from the Dock submenu in the Apple menu. The Dock will snap to the the very left or right of the screen.

Change the Dock’s size
To make the Dock smaller or larger, Select "Dock Preferences..." from the Dock submenu in the Apple menu. You'll see a number of setting for the Dock. Drag the Size setting slider to make the Dock and icons in the Dock Smaller or Larger.

Other Dock Settings
You can cause the icons in the Dock to magnify as you move the mouse pointer over them by checking the Magnification setting to turn it on and adjust the slider to determine how much the icons will grow.

When you minimize a window, it is added to the Dock. You can choose Genie Effect or Scale Effect to be used to animate the the window minimizing into the Dock.

"Animate opening applications" causes an application's icon to bounce as the application launches.

The "Automatically hide and show the Dock" setting will hide the dock from view. To show the Dock, move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen (or left or right, depending where the Dock is placed).
