Find Your iPhone with MobileMe

MobileMe offers iPhone owners lots of services: "over-the-air" syncing of contacts, calendars and email; the ability to create and share MobileMe photo albums from your phone (via the MobileMe Gallery app); access to iDisk to store and view documents (using the iDisk app); and, the topic of this article, "Find My iPhone."

If you lose or misplace your iPhone, Find My iPhone can help you find it. But, only if you set it up beforehand.

If you haven't already setup MobileMe on your iPhone, do it by launching Settings. Then, tap "Add Account" and choose MobileMe. Enter your MobileMe account information then tap Save.

In the settings for your MobileMe account (on your iPhone), turn on Find My iPhone.

An important note: When you turn on Mail, Contacts, Calendars or Bookmarks, if asked, choose "Merge with MobileMe" to make sure the contacts, calendars, and bookmarks already on your iPhone sync with MobileMe.

Now, in a web browser, go to mobileme.com. Log in and click the Find My iPhone icon. MobileMe will show a map and display your iPhone's estimated location.

From this web page, you can also Display a Message or Play a Sound. This is useful if you think your phone is close-by or with a friend, and you think the message or sound will be noticed.

You can also lock your iPhone with a four-digit code.

And, if you think your phone was stolen, you can perform a Remote Wipe to delete all information on your phone and restore it to factory settings.
