How To Play WMV and AVI Video Files on a Mac
Sometimes, when friends and family share video files with you, you're not able to play them on your Mac. Especially video files whose names end with ".wmv" or ".avi". The formats of these kinds of files are not readily playable on a Mac.
There are three things you can do to enable your Mac to play these video files, and almost any other you might try to watch.
Flip4Mac
Install the free Fliq4Mac plugin and QuickTime Player on your Mac will be able to play WMV video files.
Perian
This is another free Quicktime plug-in. Install Perian and you'll be able to watch AVI and many other video files in QuickTime Player.
VLC Media Player
If a video file doesn't open in QuickTime Player, it will open in VLC Media Player. VLC Media Player supports a wide range of video formats, including video files that QuickTime Player doesn't support, like .avi and .wmv files.
